Why e-Commerce Has Reached a New Tipping Point for Apparel

Keynote Speaker:
Peter Leech, Partner, The Partnering Group

The explosion of social networks, coupled with near-daily e-commerce and mobile advancements, is radically changing how apparel is made and sold, and how consumers think about, shop for and buy it. In this highly relevant session, Peter Leech, e-commerce expert and former CMO of Onlineshoes.com, the third largest pure-play online footwear retailer and a pioneer in social media and online video, will evaluate such key issues as:

* The collapse of traditional media in favor of digital/social communication for apparel;
* Why fashion IS social media -- increased consumer input into design via social applications;
* The rapid rise of mobile phones and price transparency;
* Cannibalization of in-store sales and the trend to small footprint/web front stores; and
* Product customization via e-commerce -- is it time to jump in?

Fashion Meets Function: Case Studies in Applying the Right Technology in the Apparel Supply Chain

Speaker: Kirk Longo, JD, Vice President, The Apparel Logistics Group Inc.

How quickly is the supply chain changing?  Many companies are optimizing their distribution networks annually. This is very costly and there is risk for companies investing heavily in automated systems when markets are strong, but weak consumer demand or shifting distribution patterns cause these investments to be underutilized. Apparel companies require solutions from a service provider that invested in technology for the apparel industry — systems such as Design, Product Lifecycle Management, Warehouse Management Software and Fashion ERP systems that are integrated with automated material handling equipment and warehouse control systems in order to service a variety of unique customer requirements from design, to imports, to customer service and distribution.

The Apparel Logistics Group will review how these different systems have been configured to handle unique requirements for clients by bringing these technologies together to provide designers, manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers with technology that they can benefit from without large investments and with lower costs and accurate service levels. The discussion will include:

* Overview of technology integrated into apparel 3PL
* Process flows illustrating decision points made by automation to handle unique customer requirements for multiple channels of apparel handling and distribution.
