THIS MONTH'S TOPIC
Focus on Compliance Management

PUBLISHER'S NOTE:
Reducing Risk in Your Global Supply Chain

Today's retailers and brands face a sea of compliance issues that include social, environmental and product safety regulations. Missteps can be not only costly, but cause major brand damage.

In this month's Executive Issues, we get an update on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) from an industry association - the American Apparel & Footwear Association - that has been deeply involved in lobbying Washington to apply this Act to the apparel and footwear industry in a more logical and fair manner.

We also examine the critical nature of the inherent risks in global sourcing operations and supply chains and explore how brands and private label retailers are utilizing technology as a risk mitigation strategy.

The end goal -- to make products safer -- has been masked by the many layers of bureaucracy and burden that are imposed upon the business community.

Private label development teams are very much dependent on the partners that form every link in the supply chain. Globalized sourcing operations increase the likelihood of risk or disruption at every turn. Fierce competition and tight cost margins can further magnify the impact of a supply chain failure on a business. With the demand to increase the mix of private label products to increase profitability, brand owners also bear the burden of managing the quality process.
