THIS MONTH'S TOPIC
Focus on RIAs

PUBLISHER'S NOTE:
Creating Online Sales Sizzle

As online apparel retailers look to lure in more consumers, the role of Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) grows ever more important. And when you stop to consider the current examples and future possibilities of how the online user experience can and will impact purchasing decisions, it's really no surprise. Don't we all feel more comfortable purchasing an apparel item if we can really "see" the detail, and view multiple angles, and virtually try it on, etc., etc.?

This month's Executive Issues offers five examples of how RIAs are being used today -including interactive video, search slidebars and virtual dressing rooms - as well as a glimpse of how they might be used in the future. You'll also get some good advice as to the types of RIA strategies in use by successful online retailers, and what it takes to overcome some of the specific technology challenges in this space.

SHOPPING COMES ALIVE WITH RICH INTERNET APPLICATIONS
How are today's most successful retailers creating online shopping experiences that rival those in the real world? The key lies in Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) that drive more personalized, interactive online shopping experiences.

Based in sophisticated technologies such as Macromedia Flash, Flex and AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML), these applications enable rich, dynamically generated content to be delivered to consumers all over the world. This content can include high quality video and audio, powerful search and sizing tools, and enhanced shopping cart functionality that make shopping online easy and intuitive.
