ILoveVelvet Unveils Mobile Retail Solution for U.S. Market

With its technology already deployed in Europe at such companies as Louis Vuitton and Gucci, ILoveVelvet is bringing its suite of customer experience technology solutions to the United States retail market.

Dubbed the Velvet Suite, the technology is designed to provide a custom shopping encounter -- while eliminating the payment queue -- based upon customers' purchase history, loyalty card and other information held by the retailer.

A mix of hardware and software targeted toward luxury brands as well as small and medium-sized retailers, the technology, according to ILoveVelvet, enables retailers to execute mobile point-of-sale payments, create a customized in-store experience, enhance product and customer knowledge and advance the training of sales staff.

Part of the suite, the Velvet D-Holster is a cradle that allows retailers to scan bar codes and provide smart card and magnetic swipe readers for customer payment and loyalty cards. It also offers a contactless processor to reduce the global payment cycle, and is compatible with Apple iPhones, iPads and iPods for in-store mobility.

The software, The Velvet Store, enables retailers to create a branded, enhanced in-store encounter for customers by offering them a personalized experience by virtue of the information available to the salesperson. Retailers can offer "concierge shopping" to every customer, providing targeted promotions and recommendations based on past purchases. ILoveVelvet reports that cardholder information is protected by layers of security in the device as well as the repository aligned with PA DSS expectations.

Retailers can also access their entire catalogues on the device, showing the customer items that may be of interest, as well as accessing details and sales pitches for each product, providing opportunities for upselling and increasing revenue per transaction.
